After the completion of our groups production, Through the Lens, we proceeded onwards towards evaluating our work as a whole, judging upon how successful the piece was, this success was dependent upon the quality of our production as a whole, including elements of composition ranging from aesthetically pleasing shots, and no background items, a wide range of camera shots and angles all of which consists of steady shots used by a tripod as well hand held, the Mise en scene has also been carefully selected, the use of continuity is excellent throughout and also lighting and focus have all been manipulated with skill to convey meaning to audiences.
As we enter the evaluation stage, our group intends to ask questions to our target audience about our production, finding out their own personal views and opinions towards Through the Lens, allowing us to establish how successful our piece was and if there's anything we could change to improve the overall efficacy of our production, to appeal to our audience.
When audiences feedback is received, we can than proceed onto answering questions for our evaluation, reflecting upon the work we completed for our production from both audiences and personal thoughts and the overall success of our thriller sequence, Through the Lens.
Questions for Audience Feedback
Audience Feedback is an essential part of our evaluation, it provides personal insights from a wide range of people ranging from our target audience, being 15+.
With audience feedback, our group intend to ask multiple people with 14 questions we devised up to provide us with their views on our production piece, with this being done, we than proceed to share each of our audience feedback together and show them on our blogs, clearly indicating that we have interviewed a wide range of people so that we can receive a balanced insight to how success our production was, and if there's anything we need to change to improve our piece.
Below are the questions displayed on Emaze, in which we shall be conducting our audience feedback in regards towards our thriller production piece, these questions will be asked to a specific target audience, who will be viewing our production piece Through the Lens and providing us with valued feedback towards it, their responses towards our production provides our group an understanding of their responses to how successful our thriller production was in term of technical aspects of camera work, editing, sound, dialogue, also their understanding of our text as a whole.
As a group we devised 14 questions in which we shall ask our target audience to gain feedback from them regarding our production, the questions are displayed below on the Emaze PowerPoint.
Our group managed to select insightful questions to ask our audience in regards of our thriller production, with these questions set, I can now go onto gathering audience feedback from our target audience, that way I can receive their own views based on what they watched and see what they thought of this, allowing us to discover the strengths and weaknesses and if any improvements can be made to strengthen the production.
Interviews
As a group, we decided upon using interviews as a way of gathering research from our target audience, that way, we can gather information from a wide range of people, consisting of different ages and genders, all interviewed at different locations and times, giving us valued opinions from their perspective, by holding the interviews separately each interviewee can give us their own personal thoughts and opinions on our production without relying on other people like the focus group did, by doing this, our group will be able to gather a wide range of feedback consisting of the strengths and weaknesses giving us vital information into what we can do to improve our production as a whole.
I shall interview a wide range of people of both genders of that appropriate age group (15+) and record them on my phone, than using an appropriate app, I shall edit all my research conducted in this time and upload onto Utube which I shall upload onto here to display my findings.
I find that recording their responses separately will give me a more realistic approach to gathering primary research for our group, allowing me to gain different opinions based on a wide range of people, each answer given to me would potentially be different to the others, as the people I'll be interviewing will differ from age, gender and lifestyle.
I particularly would like to see the results from both a male and females perspective, seeing if our production could potentially cater for both despite having a female cast.
Grace Crawford's Audience Research Feedback
I decided to research three people, all of whom differ from age and gender and how I believe could be very useful for when I conduct my audience feedback based on our production Through the Lens, these people being Orlagh Crawford (female, aged 17), Callum Addison (male, aged 18) and Sigrid Hammett (female, aged 45), these interviewees can most certainly provide me with valued feedback and insightful thoughts in relevance towards our production in terms of strengths and weaknesses and also most importantly providing me with there own thoughts and opinions towards it, allowing our group to find out our impediments so that we can successfully improve the production, enhancing its success.
Additionally, I found it important for me to interview people based on our target audience but from different gender and age perspectives to find out if potentially our target audience could reach out to many people despite our intended audience of being young female adults age 15+.
Interviewee one-Orlagh Crawford (age 17)
I found that by interviewing Orlagh, it gives me insightful responses to how she thought of our groups production, as a big horror/thriller fanatic, she can be useful towards gaining valued responses of how our thriller sequence took place and if anything could be improved to increase its chance for success.
Orlagh also ties in with our intended audience, giving our group primary responses to how well she thought we targeted this particular audience in general.
Overall, after the completion of Orlagh's feedback response, I believed I gathered a good amount of knowledge about our thriller production from an intended audiences perspective,
I found that she enjoyed connecting to the characters as a whole, notably being able to communicate through their choice of fashion statements, this being the use of footwear as the shots show converses being worn by a couple of the characters, something of which our audience are most known to wear and can identify with.
Interviewee two-Sigrid Hammett (age 45)
I wanted to expand my research in regards to feedback, my plan was to investigate and find out if older viewers would potentially watch our opening sequence and if so, would they watch on. So I decided to interview Sigrid Hammett, a women in her mid 40's to see whether or not our production would be seen by people aged 40+.
Overall, after the completion of Sigrid's feedback responses, I believed that it could potentially tie in with an older audiences interest, especially where she comments upon her young peoples lifestyles that she could relate to her children's, with this responses, our thriller sequence could expand our target audience other than just for our intended target audience.
Danielle's Duffy Audience Research Feedback
I particularly would like to see the results from both a male and females perspective, seeing if our production could potentially cater for both despite having a female cast.

Danielle's Duffy Audience Research Feedback
Danielle Duffys audience research consisted of conducting two separate interviews from two separate people, this being Kerry Duffy (female, age 25) and Ellie Fowler (Female, age 17), Danielle conducted this piece of research from the same gender, but with different age gaps, providing our group with relevant information based on our production from what each interviewee seen within the sequence.
Interviewee one- Kerry Duffy (age 25)
I found that with Danielle interviewing Kerry Duffy this can allow our group to find out if our production could potentially appeal to people in their mid 20's, thereby increasing our audience as a whole.
This can be interesting to see the results coming from this particular age range, I find that the closeness of the age can initially tie in with young adults in their 20s, but by gaining research from someone of this age perspective, we can gain trusted and reliable information regarding this.
After watching through Kelly's interview, I find that overall she was impressed with what she'd seen in our production, her responses provided us with highly detailed feedback, something of which that can help us towards our evaluation and the improvement of our thriller opening.
I find that from Kelly's responses, our production could initially be watched by people from a slightly older age, this maybe due to the closeness of each age group showing that people like Kerry can still be able to identify with our production.
Interviewee two- Ellie Fowler (age 17)
Ellie is a perfect person for our group to interview, she fits in with our intended target audience, so she can provide us with reliable information about our sequence due to this.
She can give us first hand responses of how successful our production was and also become an reliable critic in which we can take from and enhance the successfulness of our production.
With Ellie matching our intended target audience she can provide insights to how well we've targeted audiences of her age in regards to lifestyle and pleasure. I find this important, especially as Ellie's part of our target audience, so finding out her responses will be interesting as our group will finally get to see if we targeted our audience well or not.
After watching through Ellie's responses in relevance towards our production, I find that she was overall happy with what she'd seen, I think that we defiantly reached out to our intended target audience as her response show that she was able to communicate with our characters well and was able to fully identify that it was an open sequence, successfully trying to make her own assumptions into what could happen next.
Abigail Bacon's Audience Feedback Research
As a way of gathering audience feedback, Abby decided to interview her two people all at once to gain trusted feedback from them. Abby gained feedback based on our intended target audience, successfully managing to interview from a male and females perspective, giving us insightful information based on what they say.
Abby decided to interview Anna Bacon (female, age 15) and David Bacon (male, age 19), their responses are shown below.
Overall I find that by watching through their responses towards our production, they too were also impressed with Through the Lens, they were able to fully identify the genre and how the production is an opening sequence, identifying the conventions that our group were trying to convey to audiences with the house being safe yet challenged with the newspaper as it enters into the unknown of a dangerous situation.
Evaluation
Question 1-In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Question 2
Question 3-What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Question 4-Who would be the audience for your media product?
After the completion of our thriller sequence opening, I will now identify my target audience that I intended to attract and address towards and if I was successful in doing so in the process, by doing this I will be able to judge how well the production went as a whole. This is Orlagh Crawford, she is 16 years old and fits in to my intended target audience in which Through the Lense is directed towards, she is female and lives in Luton.
Her lifestyle consists of studying at Cardinal Newman sixth form 5 days a week as well as balancing out two jobs, a Saturday job at the hairdressers as well as school cleaning 5 days a week after school, reflecting her demographic status as an E-D.
For pleasure Orlagh likes to watch movies and shows on her phone, using sites such as Netflix's and Putlocker she can gain access to any program she wants at cost effective prices that she can easily afford, she likes watching programs such as Fresh Meat, Inbetweeners, American Horror Story, as well as films such as the Saw franchise, Mamma Mia, Dirty Dancing, Mean Girls, and Hunger Games.
When watching TV the typically channels she would watch would be E4, Channel 4, BBC3 and ITV2, broadcasting shows in which she would watch for entertainment and pleasure, such as Family Guy, American Dad, The Big Bang Theory, Friday Night Dinner, Hollyoaks and Towie.
When out, Orlagh likes to attend house parties with her friends or go out on social nights partying, when shopping her favorite shops to go would be River Island, Hollister, New Look and Topshop.
Orlagh's music taste consists of the latest hits and popular music artist (s) of that period, so music such as Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Adele, Taylor Swift, Sia and Disclosure, tops her flavor in music, she uses an app called Tubidy in which she downloads music free from her smart device.
I find that Orlagh is a perfect representation for my intended target audience, she fits it rather well within her pleasure and lifestyle to which we presented our characters like, I find that if our film was shown through smart devices such as Netflixs, girls like Orlagh would watch it as its cost effective and has easy access to watch through.
